About the Book
As early as 3,000 years ago, primitive celadon wares were invented in Dehua, Fujian Province in Southeast China. These brilliant porcelain pieces have played an important role in the cultural exchanges between China and others. Among them, Blanc De Chine (white porcelain) and blue-and-white porcelain wares are especially outstanding in the world. The fascinating aesthetic appeal of these porcelain wares has earned Dehua the reputation of “Chinese porcelain capital” and “Hometown of Chinese folk art”.
Dehua Porcelain in China, with many illustrations, gives a comprehensive historic account of the precious art. Starting from the perspective of archaeological surveys, in combination with historical data, this book details the evolution of this intangible culture from many aspects such as glazing, decorating, and firing. For Dehua porcelain lovers, it provides a rich account of the fascinating porcelain culture as well as some important archaeological findings. It also introduces the government’s and practitioners’ efforts in the conservation and development of this intangible cultural heritage.
