四角号码新词典(第10版)以语词为主，兼收百科的通俗性语文工具书，主要收现代词语，也收一些古词古义，释义力求简明，重在实用，供中等文化程度的读者使用。

此次第10次修订，主要做了以下几个方面的工作：1、增添了80年代以来的新词新义，同时根据新资料对原有的一些注释内容做了补充修改，并删减了少数过时、冷僻和与附录内容重复的复词条目，2、根据82年以后国家有关语言文字规范文字，修订了字形、字音和字义，整理了部分异形词，3、新增“西文字母开头的词语”，附录都根据新资料进行了修订甚至改写，同时新添了《中国少数民族简表》、《中国行政区划简表》。

经过修订，第10版共收单字11900多个，复词23700多条。
