In April 1991, the UNESCO Silk Roads Steppe Route Expedition travelled 13,000 kilometres across Central Asia from Ashkhabad to Khorgos. Photographer Liu Wenmin participated in this expedition and took many photographs of ancient cities, cultural relics and local customs. Before embarking on the UNESCO expedition Liu Wenmin had made a tour along the Silk Road in China from Xi’an, Xinjiang, Taklimakan to Kunjirap, the border between China and Pakistan.

A collection of Liu Wenmin’s works, this book gives a panoramic view of the ancient Silk Roads Steppe Route and shows the continuing cultural influence of the Silk Road.
