Chinese Paintings on Tea presents a collection of paintings relating to the Chinese tea heritage throughout eras and dynasties. As reflections of contemporaneous thoughts and emotions, these artworks illustrate values and virtues rooted deeply in the traditional Chinese culture. This book consists of four parts: the poetic connotations in paintings, the contemplation of retreat, the state of mind and the perspectives of ancient Chinese.

Three main categories of paintings are included in this book: figure paintings to highlight values in beings; landscape paintings to display harmonious relationships between humans and nature; and bird-and-flower paintings to reflect purity and life enjoyment. These paintings depict the various activities associated with tea.

Chinese Paintings on Tea is one attempt at illustrating the abstractions of Chinese culture with visual images, and opening the realms of arts in the rich culture related to tea.

About the Author

Jiping Qiu, associate professor in China Academy of Art, has been engaged in teaching and practice of painting and calligraphy for many years. He has published dozens of professional articles. He is the author of the books Chinese Paintings on Tea, The Illustrated Classic of Tea, The Art of Chinese Tea Couplets, and Painting Collection on Tea in the Song Dynasty. He is also the author of the textbook Basis of Plane Constitution. In October 2016, Jiping Qiu was awarded the Excellent Works of Tea Culture by China International Tea Culture Research Association on the first “Tea and Culture Promotion” Cup. His paintings “Stone Image of Zhuang Wanfang” and “Stone Image of Yuan'erbianyuan” are erected in the West Lake International Tea Village and the Jingshan Temple.
