In response to various confusions related to interaction design and information design, this book introduces the concepts and frameworks concerned to information, information design, and the emerging Interaction Design. This book creatively discusses the relationship between Human-computer Interaction (HCI), emerging design fields and other traditional design fields, also comprehensively annotates the partly-overlapped relationship among design, computer science and cognitive psychology. Moreover, this book puts forward the originally created concepts of Fields and Fields Interaction Design (FID), aiming to lay the foundation for exploring the mainstream design methodology in the post-information society.

FID provides a new means for interaction designers to map and visualize the information and interrelationship between the user and their surrounding environment, including the users’ existence, goals, cognitive conceptions, movements, activities, and socio-cultural contexts, etc. This project is cross-disciplinary research: it not only draws insights from the fundamental theories of aesthetic concepts, contextual design, and interaction design, but is also in conjunction with knowledge from environmental psychology and cognitive psychology. The main aim of this study is to create a comprehensive intermediary between users and their surrounding environment by exploring Fields as a key aesthetic factor, to eventually achieve a design method for approaching better user interactive experiences from the perspective of Aesthetics.

Dr Stephen Jia Wang is an interaction designer and informational products designer. Currently, He is working as the Coordinator of Interaction Design in the Faculty of Art Design & Architecture, Monash University. His research and practice both focus on exploring interaction design methods and developing transnational Interaction Design Curriculum. Before Stephen took this position, he had gained experiences from the following positions: Specially-Appointed Professor at Tokyo Zokei University (Japan); Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Design, Swinburne University (Australia); Adjunct Senior Lecturer and Lecturer in the Faculty of Art Design & Architecture, Monash University (Australia). Stephen has undertaken research in the field of designing Human-Environment Interactions since 1999. In the past 5 years, he has been involved in several major research projects across Asia and Oceania, has exhibited and published internationally.
